Pitch a piece
We welcome thoughtful pitches about cinema that give readers a fresh way to notice how films work. Send proposals through the Contact page rather than submitting a full, unsolicited article.
What we are looking for
Pitch a clear, focused piece about story, performance, visual style, sound or film history. A useful proposal has a distinct central question, a reason it matters to curious viewers and a scope that can be handled without sweeping claims.
Make the pitch specific
Tell us the working idea, the film or films involved, the main point you hope to explore and how the piece would help a reader watch more attentively. Explain any specialist terms you expect to use and flag factual claims that would need careful checking.
Send a proposal
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option to share your pitch. Include a short note about relevant writing experience if you wish; do not send confidential material or assume a proposal has been accepted until there is a clear reply.
Watching closely makes room for surprise
There is no test to pass here. Pick one choice in a film and see where it leads; sometimes the most interesting detail is the one you nearly missed.
